DIY Rustic Metal Letter Signs

DIY Rustic Metal Letter Signs
How to make DIY rustic Signs the super easy way! A great blog post for a source for these awesome letters & an easy way to make signs for any room of your home!-

YOU GUYS. I am going to admit today that the alphabet soup aisle at Michaels got me the other day. Like it completely sucked me in. I actually wanted to make some signs for our store for the walls & got a little carried away. They have such a huge variety of letters in colors, shapes, sizes, & prices. It got me thinking of how many ways you can make signs with the letters from the craft store so I decided to blog a few ways we did it today. I shared a few of the signs on Instagram the other day [here] & I got a lot of questions on how to make them. Honestly? You could make them a million different ways. We took the easiest way out & I’m going to share that with you today. Hopefully this post inspires you to make a sign or two for your own home.. the possibilities are really endless! I took a few photos of the signs we made in our home & a few photos of some of the signs in our store today all from using some scrap wood & beadboard with our letters we got from Michaels…

This home sign in our living room with a beadboard background is one of my favorites. Like all of the signs in this post, the letters are from Michaels Craft Store. We cut a sheet of beadboard that we had in our garage to the size to fit the letters on. We then made a frame on the back of the beadboard with 2 x 2 to make it sturdy & solid & easy to hang. The letters are hanging onto the sign with nails. Super simple! Each letter comes with hangers on the back already which makes this project a super easy one. Here is an example of how the frame looks on the back of each sign…

Sorry about the terrible photos, but when we were making the signs it was late at night, I mean you all know I get my ideas & do all my projects at night right? They say that’s when creatives thrive. I believe them. The wood on the back really does make the signs more solid & easier to hang. You can hang the signs in many different ways from adding picture hardware to the back [found in the hardware aisle at any store], rope, or just screwing the signs directly to a wall.

This “EAT” sign is fun because we made it from some antique beadboard that we had lying around our garage that was craps from another project. We did the same thing as we did with the “Home” sign with making a simple frame on the back of the sign so that it would be sturdy & have a ledge on the back so we could hang the signs easy.

This “Farm” sign we made is one of my favorites. I don’t know why, but it’s just cute. This was another one of our beadboard signs that we made & it was another simple build. Beadboard, add frame to the back, hang the letters with nails, repeat!

This “Spring” sign is on tongue and groove boards, that are glued and nailed together. To provide added support and options for hanging the signs on the wall, I glued and nailed 2 x 2’s on the backside (horizontally). When it was all put together & before hanging the letters we painted the tongue and groove boards white.

The “Cottage” sign & the “Antiques” sign was made the same way as the “Spring” sign. The tongue and groove boards put together, the boards put on the back, & then the letters were attached with nails & the letters just hang on the sign like normal. When I say these signs were easy to make, I wasn’t lying. Seriously these signs are so versitile & I love that you can spell anything you want, hang them or set them anywhere in your home, & really get a different look with painting the boards or changing up the style of the letters you choose. So many fun combinations & ideas. I also love that the letters are really great quality & are great reproductions of antique metal sign letters. I’m a fan. Have you been sucked into the alphabet soup aisle at Michaels yet? Have you guys made any signs from the letters from Michaels? How did you make your signs? What did you spell? Let me know in the comments below, find me on Facebook, & chat with me on Instagram. Thank you SO MUCH for stopping by the blog today! It truly means a lot. xx
