First you want to plan out what shapes you want and what pattern you want them in. I did this by roughly laying out a first layer of popsicle sticks for each shape. As you can see, later decided to remove two of the shapes – which just shows how flexible and customizable this DIY is!

Before glueing or painting any of the sticks, I wanted to see how thick I wanted to frames to be. The result I liked the most was a stack of 8 sticks per side. I used 23 sticks for each triangle, 32 for the polygon, and 48 for each hexagon.

After I knew how many sticks I needed, I counted out the total number and painted them white. I love using acrylic paint because it dries so fast, and I have more control over it than spray paint. But, you can use whatever you prefer. Another great thing about this DIY is that you can paint the sticks any color to match the scheme of your room.

After they were all painted and dried, I started to hot glue them together! Make sure you lay out the base of the entire shape before you start gluing anything – this will ensure that all your angles are correct. Then just keep gluing and layering popsicle sticks until you have your desired thickness.

Yay! You finished your geometric shelves! Give yourself a little pat on the back, you deserve it. I hung them up using only a push pin. The popsicle sticks are light enough so that you can easily balance the frame the push pin. Now all you have to do is find things to fill it with.

I absolutely love plants. They add life into any room (too bad that these are fake). It was hard to find real plants small enough to fit in the frame, so I bought these fake ones from World Market. I also got the little lucky cat from World Market. They didn’t actually come in sets, so it was convenient that I could buy them separately. Fun fact, the flower pot is actually a sake cup that I was hoping would fit in the triangle frame. I accidently dropped my grocery bag on the pavement and the original pot the plant was in broke. So even though the cup didn’t fit in the triangle, it was the perfect pot replacement for my plant. It was extremely difficult trying to find something that would fit in the smaller triangle frames. I was thinking about stringing a necklace through it, when I saw these pair of earrings that I never wear. I thought they were perfect so I hung them in the triangles. It was a little difficult to get them around the popsicle sticks, though. I ended up taking some thread and tying a little loop that the earring could easily hook onto.

That’s it!

Alright Kids,

Have fun
