Raise your hand if you think cardboard tissue boxes are super stylish and awesome. No? Me neither. I have to hand it to the tissue companies though, they do TRY to make their boxes cute but they can’t please everyone. This is where I come in. I am here for you. With allergy season ramping up and those dumb colds making the rounds any time of the year, it seems like we are always in need of a box of tissues in every room and within arm’s length. So let’s make them into something that we love, shall we? A mason jar is just what we need for this hack so grab one to make your very own mason jar tissue holder!

The beauty of the good ole mason jar is that you can paint it, tint it, spray it, etc. to make it any style you’d like it to be. And with the addition of any style of scrapbook paper you can customize it even more! Add some tissues and you’ll never have to go far for a tissue again.

Mason Jar Tissue Holder

If you’d like to make a mason jar tissue holder too, this is what you’ll need (some links are affiliate links, click here for full disclosure):

• mason jar (wide mouth jars are easiest to get the tissues in but regular works as well)
• scrapbook paper
• exacto knife
• scissors
• tissue (see below for suggestions)

First of all, as I experimented with a few different tissues I found these to work the best for fitting into a mason jar the easiest.

These Angel Soft tissues are their smaller “on the go” packs. Easy to remove from the package, fold entire package in half and put into your mason jar.

And these “perfect fit” Kleenex brand tissues are called that because they are, literally, the perfect fit for a mason jar! K, maybe that’s not WHY they are called that but it’s true. Since they are already made to fit in this cylinder shaped container, they easily fit into a mason jar.

I’m guessing there are other tissues that would work as well but these were the two that I found worked the best for me!

So, here is how you put a mason jar tissue holder together.

Using the jar lid as a guide, trace a circle onto a piece of scrapbook paper and cut it out.

Cut an X in the middle of the circle with an exacto knife.

Fold your tissues and put into mason jar.

Feed a center tissue up through your X in your scrapbook paper, and screw on the lid ring. Done!

I decided to paint and distress my mason jar to make it a little more adorable and I gathered up some other mason jars I had around and quickly made a couple more. So easy! You can see how I made that DIY Mercury Glass jar here. And I got that green jar already tinted that way as part of Ball Jar’s heritage collection.

So fun, right? I love them! I now have one in my bathroom, family room and kitchen, just like that!

**Update: After having these for a few months now, I would suggest laminating the scrapbook paper before cutting the X. The paper seemed to tear after a while. You could also just use packing tape on one or both sides to strengthen it a little!
