After living in Arizona nearly all of my life and having to experience the pastel southwest design fiasco of the early 90’s that threw up all over my childhood home, I thought I was scarred for life and could not accept the beauty of some of our local natural resources for the rest of my time here on Earth. I mean, you can only handle so many pink coyotes with teal bandanas on and dream catchers that looked like it had the wool of an entire sheep hanging from it before you start to block some of these memories from your mind. Thankfully, I can say that I’ve been away from the terror long enough to begin to deeply appreciate some aspects of my local landscape and culture which I think became apparent when I began painting cactus a week or so back.
